What is a Doula?
A Doula is a professionally trained labor support person. She is there
to be your compassionate companion, emotionally supporting you through
your pregnancy, birth and immediate postpartum. As doulas ourselves, we
recognize the need to have these wonderful women by your side during
your birth. It has been a tradition throughout the ages to have this feminine support and we feel bless to continue this lineage. We encourage all families who are considering hiring a
doula, to do some homework and check with different doulas to see how she can
specifically help you. Doulas come with a variety of philosophies and
having one that matches your own is extremely important. Making sure the
right woman is by your side can significantly change your entire birth
experience helping make it the most memorable day of your life!

What are the Benefits of hiring a Doula?
Numerous studies have revealed the benefits of having a doula present
during labor. A recent Cochrane Review, Continuous Support for
Women During Childbirth, revealed a very high number of positive
birth outcomes when a doula was present. When a doula was present,
women were less likely to have pain relief medications administered,
less likely to have a cesarean birth, and reported having a more positive
childbirth experience(1)
Other studies have shown that having a doula as part of the birth team decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytocin by 40% and the request for an epidural by 60%(2)
A Doula also helps the partner contribute with confidence!

What Women are saying who have used Celeste as a Doula:
"Celeste
exceeded our expectations at our daughter's birth. Celeste was a very
competent, professional, and peace-inducing doula -- she was fantastic!
In the beginning, I was unsure of the value of a doula and hesitant to
make the investment. However, I now understand why a doula is extremely
beneficial. The sense of serenity, assurance, and peace she brought to
the room were incredible. Celeste had the perfect words, technique, or
touch at just the right moment throughout my labor. She brought comfort
and encouragement beyond what I could receive from my husband and
mother, who were also present. She helped us plan for and carry out an
ideal birth; we are all grateful she was with us. Celeste is genuinely
interested in birth and was beautifully engaged in our special
experience. I would highly recommend her doula skills to anyone." ~ Stephanie
